THE INTENTION
This service was created in collaboration with Quadrangle NL to address the ongoing gaps in mental health services for 2SLGBTQIA+ folx in Newfoundland and Labrador. This service is provided and created by members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Therapy is provided from three main lenses: queer/trans theory, trauma informed care, and person-centered therapy. This is done by "promoting belonging across our differences, sharing resources, and honouring our strengths and experiences" (Quadrangle NL).
We hope to provide safe, confidential spaces for folx who need a soft place to land and discuss the issues they are facing. You bring you and we will meet you where you are.
WHAT IS DROP IN COUNSELLING?
Drop-in counselling seeks to address client’s current issues in a brief and solution focused manner. Due to the brevity of a one-hour counselling session, the goal of drop-in counselling is to create a better understanding of the client’s issue, focus on the client's current resources, skills and abilities, then provide further resources or referrals where needed. Community members are welcome to frequent this service as needed and those who are on our waiting list are encouraged to avail of it as needed.
We ask that if you are seeing another JPMF counsellor that you refrain from using this service to allow others who aren’t receiving services to avail from it. Drop-in counselling is not a replacement for long-term counselling and we encourage clients to use this as a resource on top of their other supports.
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
Each week, eight (8) drop in counselling appointments will be available on Thursdays. Individuals wishing to participate in drop in counselling will be able to register for a one hour time slot starting Wednesday at 9am, the day prior to the drop-in service. Folks can also call, text, or email to book an appointment.
